Repair loose caulking and consider installing vents or exhaust fans to lower the humidity in the house.If the blisters go down to the substrate, you will need to remove the source of moisture, if possible. Once the problem area has a smooth finish, coat with primer before applying a quality acrylic latex interior paint. The stuff you can do with plaster is amazing I wish more people would do it in there homes.Paint bubbles can form long after the paint on your walls and ceiling has dried. Lime and gauging as a finish is great to work with because the amount of gauging you put in gives you your set time. And if your doing restoration why not try to do it right. I'm not saying my way is the best it just works for me. I wasn't bashing you I was trying to help you and other people reading this post out. But I try to help people do the job right. It is a dying art form that not many people know how to do or want to learn. But what makes me get upset is when people call durabond or joint compound plaster. I learn something new on all jobs and from many people. I'm not saying I'm an expert either although I do it for a living. And its not much different then the durabond set time. I agree but if I can learn to plaster anyone can. It didn't have thickness like paint so I guess they tinted the plaster and did a really fine coat. it still looked nice after I took all the layers of paint and wallpaper off. One room had a different coating that I think must have been like plaster that was dyed green. I got rid of a sheet of cement board that I didn't have immediate use for and I think if you used that it would be even more like drywall if you wanted that hard surface, albeit a lot more expensive than drywall, and really heavy, I bet it is a good fire barrier. (not sure if off gass is the right word but I guess it goes through some change chemically.) That water soluble paint leaves kind of a difficult surface to stick new stuff to ad I found washing it off with hot water worked, but it was a PITA. Ken do you have issues with paint not sticking to your plaster? My house seems to have calcimine paint over a lot of the plaster and I read that it was used because it was hard to stick paint to fresh plaster, that it had to kind of off-gass for 6 months or so.
